Benefits of Dental Implants

While there are several options for tooth replacement, such as dentures or bridges, dental implants are the only option that prevents bone loss and fully restores oral function. A dental implant is surgically inserted into the jaw by an oral surgeon. It acts just like a natural tooth root to keep the jaw healthy and provide strength to your new tooth. Dentures and bridges may restore the appearance and some functionality, but implants will look, feel, and function just like natural teeth.

There are many other reasons to choose dental implants, including:

  • Implants protect your long-term oral health by preserving facial structure and preventing bone loss.
  • There are many candidates for dental implants, which require a healthy jaw bone. If bone loss has occurred, we can rebuild the jaw with bone grafts, creating a sturdy foundation to support the implant.
  • To maintain good oral hygiene, simply care for your implant just like a natural tooth.
  • A custom crown is attached to the implant and specially designed to blend naturally with your existing teeth.
  • There are no dietary restrictions, so you can eat your favorite foods comfortably.
  • Feel confident about your smile again!

Types of Dental Implants

Dental implants are versatile and there are many types of implant treatments to help patients with varying degrees of tooth loss. At the consultation appointment, your oral surgeon will discuss all of your options and design a treatment plan to restore your smile.

  • Single Tooth Replacement. One implant, which consists of a titanium post, an abutment, and a crown, can replace a single tooth anywhere in the mouth.
  • Multiple Teeth Replacement. An implant-supported bridge restores multiple teeth next to each other, while multiple implants can restore teeth throughout the mouth.
  • Same-Day Implants. Immediately following tooth extraction, your surgeon can insert a dental implant into the tooth socket. Same-day dental implants prevent you from having to go without a tooth and eliminate the need for a separate surgical procedure to place the implant.
  • Full-Arch Restoration. Using as few as four implants, your surgeon can attach a prosthesis that restores a full arch of teeth. Full-arch restoration is an excellent solution for patients missing many or all of their teeth, or who are unsatisfied with removable dentures.

Dental Implant Surgery

During your first visit, your oral surgeon will use 3D scans of your mouth to create a detailed surgical plan for your implant placement. There are many anesthesia and sedation options available and your surgeon will help you select the right choice to ensure a calm, comfortable surgical experience.

On the day of your procedure, after the anesthesia has taken effect, your surgeon will make incisions in the gum tissue and insert the implants. Sutures are placed as needed, and you will go home that same day. A temporary crown may be attached to the implant, which you will wear over the next few months as the implant heals. Finally, your restorative dentist will create and place the final crown.

Types of Anesthesia

There are a variety of anesthesia and sedation options available at our practice.

"I’m Veronica from Houston and I had a general dental extraction, and I’ll be getting a dental implant. The staff here are some of the friendliest staff I’ve dealt with from a doctor’s office. My doctor, as a person, is outgoing, friendly, innovative, and always on top of what the newest technology is. The video in WUWTA text messages that I received made me feel a lot more comfortable and prepared. My procedure went very well, actually better than what I expected. I had an amazing overall experience here. I would give Alfi Oral Surgery five out of five stars, hands down."
